he Groton Film Society, Inc. is a not-for-profit,
membership-supported corporation. Our aim is to contribute an
additional cultural offering to the growing vibrancy of our town.
The GFS strives to show high-quality independent films that have
compelling themes, and that are not typically shown in area
theaters. We mount one screening per month at various venues in
Groton, MA — most events in 2008 take place at Lawrence
Academy’s Performing Arts Center. Screenings are followed,
when possible, by guest speakers who may be involved with the
subject of the film or with the independent film industry. On a
typical evening we will hold a reception with hors d’oevres,
perhaps from a local caterer; dessert and coffee are served
following the film and discussion.
All of the above features are free to members of GFS. One-day memberships are available at the door for interested parties.
The core members of the group that has established the GFS and oversees its day-to-day operations are as follows. A number of others attended one or more meetings and offered us information and advice.
