dc-o ere is a followup to the GFS premiere screening and call for volunteers that went out on our Members and Interest mailing lists.

I think those who attended the premiere screening on Saturday Dec. 1 will tell you that it was a lively, stimulating, and rewarding evening. A total of 94 people showed up on the coldest day of the year, so far, to enjoy Andrea Mason’s marvelous catering, watch “The World’s Fastest Indian,” and take part in a lively post-film discussion. The audience bore with us with good grace through a few initial technical difficulties.

Nine new members signed up before the screening. Thank you and welcome!

We announced the second film, scheduled for Saturday Jan. 5 at Lawrence Academy: “The Lives of Others,” which won the Academy Award this year for best foreign film, as well as 41 other international awards. For details and links see

To continue growing and bringing you evenings of film and conversation like this is going to require significant new volunteer help. We need more hands in almost every aspect of planning and hosting these events.

If you have an interest in helping us to expand this cultural offering for Groton, please join us for a volunteers meeting:

Thursday Dec. 6
6:30 PM — 8:45 PM
Community Room
Groton Public Library

The Community room is immediately on your right after you enter by the rear doors.

Please reply to [email protected] if you plan to be there. If there is too much interest — a delicious prospect! — we may have to find a larger meeting space.
